Interrailing Europe was an incredible experience, yet my 9 months of planning proved of little use to us once we were on the tracks. So, let's get real about interrail with some top tips and things to consider before you go! At £230 a ticket, Interrail can prove a very affordable way to travel Europe (averaging £34 a journey). To get the full value of the ticket you must know how it works. We got caught out a couple of times and only ended up using 5 trains and having to buy two bus journeys. If your route requires a train reservation, make this at least 24 hours in advance. We read that you could make the reservation just before hopping on the train. This was not the case and we had to get a bus to Amsterdam as our accomodation was already paid. Charge your phone beforehand and bring a portable charger. Charger ports were like gold dust on most trains and this can prove very inconvenient if you arrive in an unfamiliar city with no battery and no idea where you're going. Bring cash as the train cafe is cash only... not ideal when you're starving at your train breaks down in Poland for 2 hours (true events). Plan your route very leniently. We missed a train to Zagreb as the website provided incorrect information. There were no more trains for two days so we skipped Zagreb altogether. Which leads me to my most important tip: book ONLY free cancellation accomodation, or don't book at all. Use hostels or apps like Hotel Tonight to book accomodation once you are 100% sure you'll reach that destination. Consider alternatives such as FlixBus from as little as 5 euros a journey with USB ports at every seat, straight journeys with one stop off to grab food (and fresh air) and microwaves to make your own food. There's also the added comfort that your luggage is safely stored away. INTERRAIL TICKETS ARE CURRENTLY 15% OFF. BUY YOURS HERE.Have you watched our interrail vlog? filmed using gopro hero 4.

Helpful tips for me. I want to go interrailing with my girlfriend. Could maybe do a blog or article on tips on travelling with your other half? Keep going really helpful!
